Justin Wilson, the Sheffield-born IndyCar driver, is in a coma after being hit by a piece of debris during yesterday’s race in Pocono, Pennsylvania.
The 37-year-old former Formula One driver, who competes for Andretti Autosport, suffered a head injury when Sage Karam’s car crashed in front of him 179 laps into the 200-lap race. It is believed that he was struck by a detached nose cone from Karam’s car. Wilson was airlifted to hospital by helicopter while Karam was treated for a minor foot injury.
